Description
PHOENICIAN GOLD APPLIQUE WITH FLOWER MOTIF.
Ca. 800 - 600 BC.
A square-shaped gold applique with small perforations at each corner for attachment. The surface is decorated in repousse with a central boss surrounded by four teardrop-shaped petals in a cruciform arrangement, with four ribbed almond-shaped motifs set diagonally between them.
Size: 15mm x 15mm; Weight: 0.13g
Provenance: Private London collection; previously part of a distinguished New York private collection, assembled between 1975 and 1995. The collection was authenticated in the early 1990s by Dr. Jack Ogden and Barbara Deppert Lippitz, leading specialists in ancient jewellery. A significant number of objects from this collection were also published in a professional catalogue.
