COLLECTION OF MESOPOTAMIAN STONE STAMP SEALS - ORIGINAL LAMBERT REPORT. Ca. 3000 BC. A collection of four stamp seals, including, from left to right: a translucent green stone stamp seal of collared ovoid form, pierced end to end, engraved with a circle of small springing animals and two fillers; a translucent fawn stone stamp seal of hemispheroid form, pierced horizontally, engraved with four small springing animals arranged in a circle around a central dot; a translucent fawn stone stamp seal of semi-ovoid form, pierced sideways, engraved with two horned animals tete-beche with fillers; and an orange stone stamp seal of hemispheroid form with flanges around the ends of the hole, with drilled motifs. Size: 19-48mm x 15-40mm; Weight: 80g Provenance: Private London collection of an Ancient Art dealer; formerly in a central London family collection, 1990s; examined by Wilfrid George Lambert in the late 1980s–early 1990s; ex UK art market, 1970s–early 1980s.
