COLLECTION OF MESOPOTAMIAN STONE ANIMAL AMULETS AND A STAMP SEAL - ORIGINAL LAMBERT REPORT. Ca. 3000 - 1000 BC. A collection of animal amulets and a stamp seal, including, from top left: a dark stone amulet of a recumbent bovine in the round, pierced through the back, with grooves on the base; a white stone amulet in the form of a perching bird in the round, pierced through the suspension loop on the back; an amulet of a recumbent animal; a white stone amulet in the form of a standing quadruped with head down, perhaps a bovine, pierced vertically through the back; a red stone amulet of two recumbent bovines with their rear ends overlapping, with a suspension loop in the middle; and a translucent brown stone stamp seal, the back presenting a recumbent bovine in deep relief and the face offering a design of drill holes including a prancing quadruped. Size: 19-23mm x 13-18mm; Weight: 25g Provenance: Private London collection of an Ancient Art dealer; formerly in a central London family collection, 1990s; examined by Wilfrid George Lambert in the late 1980s–early 1990s; ex UK art market, 1970s–early 1980s.
