COLLECTION OF MESOPOTAMIAN STONE, BRONZE AND SHELL ANIMAL AMULETS AND STAMP SEALS - ORIGINAL LAMBERT. Ca. 3000 - 500 BC. A collection of six stone, bronze and shell animal amulets and stamp seals, including, from left: a whitish stone stamp seal, drilled vertically, the back portraying a recumbent animal with pointed snout, the face offering a simple grid of lines; a fawn stone amulet of a recumbent bovine in the round, with eyes drilled for inlay, grooves on the base, and pierced through the back; a red stone amulet of the head of a pig in the round, in fine detail; a shell amulet engraved on both sides with the front parts of two quadrupeds, joined with a suspension hole in the middle, probably two domestic animals emerging from the pen; a translucent brown stone stamp seal, not pierced, the back presenting a recumbent quadruped in the round, the face with a design not now clear; and a bronze amulet of a walking crab with legs extended. Size: 21-34mm x 13-23mm; Weight: 48g Provenance: Private London collection of an Ancient Art dealer; formerly in a central London family collection, 1990s; examined by Wilfrid George Lambert in the late 1980s–early 1990s; ex UK art market, 1970s–early 1980s.
