MESOPOTAMIAN OR CENTRAL ASIAN LIMESTONE CYLINDER SEAL WITH A SNAKE-HEADED TREE.
Ca. 3000 - 2000 BC.
A limestone cylinder seal, drilled longitudinally and engraved with a tree of life whose branches terminate in snake heads. A hero, a gazelle, and another tree of life are in the exergue.
Size: 30mm x 20mm; Weight: 18g
Provenance: Private London collection of an Ancient Art dealer; formerly in a central London family collection, 1990s; reportedly examined by Wilfrid George Lambert in the late 1980s–early 1990s; ex UK art market, 1970s–early 1980s.
