COLLECTION OF MESOPOTAMIAN STONE ANIMAL AMULETS AND A STAMP SEAL - ORIGINAL LAMBERT REPORT. Ca. 3000 - 1000 BC. A collection of four stone animal amulets and a stamp seal, including, from top left: a dark stone amulet of a perching vulture in the round, with a broken suspension loop on top; a brown stone stamp seal, drilled vertically, the back presenting a buffalo in relief and the face offering three small springing animals, mostly drilled; a dark stone amulet, not pierced, depicting in the round a small crouching animal, the body grooved to represent fur; a translucent stone amulet, pierced sideways, carved as a recumbent bovine in the round; and a grey stone amulet, pierced sideways, carved as a recumbent small quadruped with big ears in the round, on a base. Size: 25-42mm x 18-26mm; Weight: 45g Provenance: Private London collection of an Ancient Art dealer; formerly in a central London family collection, 1990s; examined by Wilfrid George Lambert in the late 1980s–early 1990s; ex UK art market, 1970s–early 1980s.
