COLLECTION OF MESOPOTAMIAN STONE AND SHELL AMULETS, BEADS, AND STAMP SEALS - ORIGINAL LAMBERT REPORT. Ca. 3000 - 1 BC. A collection of amulets, beads and stamp seals, including: 10 assorted amulets of stone, comprising an "eye idol", three vessels, one pierced and decorated, a human leg and foot, a rhomb-shaped bead with linear design, a V-shaped bead, two crescent beads, and a demon plaque with pierced tab; a shell amulet in the form of a human face or demon face with moustache, big hollow eyes, and tall forehead with grooves over it, apparently once with horns; a white stone stamp seal with red inclusions, pierced horizontally and in hemispheroid form, the design showing a stag with huge horns, another with normal horns, and a third quadruped without horns; a brown stone stamp seal in hemispheroid form, pierced horizontally, the design showing two small, fat animals, tete-beche; and a veined fawn and grey stone stamp seal in hemispheroid form, pierced diagonally, the design showing two small springing animals tete-beche. Size: 16-40mm x 7-40mm; Weight: 85g Provenance: Private London collection of an Ancient Art dealer; formerly in a central London family collection, 1990s; examined by Wilfrid George Lambert in the late 1980s–early 1990s; ex UK art market, 1970s–early 1980s.
