NEO-ASSYRIAN LIMESTONE CYLINDER SEAL WITH BRONZE RING, A HERO, A HORSE, AND A BIRD.
Ca. 800 - 700 BC.
A limestone cylinder seal with a bronze ring, drilled longitudinally and engraved with a hero shooting his bow at a horse and a goose or duck. A schematic plant, cuneiform wedges, and dots are depicted in the exergue.
Size: 49mm x 14mm; Weight: 12g
Provenance: Private London collection of an Ancient Art dealer; formerly in a central London family collection, 1990s; reportedly examined by Wilfrid George Lambert in the late 1980s–early 1990s; ex UK art market, 1970s–early 1980s.
