LARGE ROMAN GOLD AND CARNELIAN CAMEO OF AN EMPRESS Ca. AD 100 - 200. A large oval carnelian cameo carved with the profile bust of an empress facing left, her hair arranged beneath a diadem. It is set in a gold pendant with a twisted wire border and a plain reverse. The broad suspension loop above is decorated with clusters of applied granules flanking a raised central band. Size: 33mm x 25mm; Weight: 8.3g Provenance: From a London private collection; purchased in Germany before 2000. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
