ROMAN INTAGLIO WITH EROTIC SCENE IN GOLD RING Ca. AD 1 - 300 (or later). A carnelian intaglio engraved with an erotic scene beneath a draped canopy. A woman reclines on her back to the right, supported on her elbows, facing a kneeling man to the left. The intaglio is set in a possibly later gold ring with a rounded hoop broadening towards an oval bezel bordered by applied granules. Size: D:18.75mm / US: 8 3/4 / UK: R; Weight: 5.3g Provenance: UK private collection; London market; ex Parthenon Gallery, 1990s.
