LARGE BYZANTINE SILVER-GILT ENKOLPION WITH CRUCIFIXION Ca. AD 900 - 1100 . A silver-gilt hinged enkolpion with a broad suspension loop. One face is engraved with the Virgin Orans and the Christ Child before her, beneath the Greek abbreviation 'MP _Y', meaning 'Mother of God'. The reverse depicts Christ standing with outstretched arms between two crosses, beneath 'IC XC', the abbreviated Greek form of 'Jesus Christ'. For similar see: Helen C. Evans, and W. D.
