Description
OSTROGOTHIC SILVER-GILT AND GARNET RADIATE BROOCH Ca. AD 475 - 525 . A silver-gilt radiate brooch with a semicircular headplate surmounted by five projecting knobs, each set with a garnet cabochon. The arched bow is decorated with an incised interlace band and joins an elongated lozenge-shaped footplate filled with spiral ornament. Circular garnet settings and projecting lobes border the footplate, which terminates in a collared finial. A pin and catchplate are attached to the reverse. For similar see: M.
