Description
NEAR EASTERN AGATE BIRD-SHAPED SEAL Ca. II Millennium BC. A banded agate seal carved as a bird with an elongated body, short neck, rounded crested head, and pointed beak. The folded wing is incised with parallel feathers, and the tail terminates in a fan of short grooves. The underside is engraved with scattered symbols between a sun at one end and a crescent moon above the seven-dot glyph at the other. The seal is drilled transversely for suspension. Size: 41mm x 34mm; Weight: 19g Provenance: Private UK collection; Ex private family collection of a North American gentleman, 1980-90Õs. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
