NEO-BABYLONIAN AGATE CICADA AMULET WITH ENGRAVED SCENE Ca. 800 - 600 BC. A banded agate cicada amulet with an elongated tapering body. The underside is engraved with a kneeling figure raising both hands between the divine symbols of Marduk (spade) and Nabu (stylus). Above is the moon-god Sin within a crescent, wearing a tall cylindrical headdress with horizontal ridges and a crescent finial, his right hand raised. The amulet is perforated lengthwise for suspension. Size: 49mm x 20mm; Weight: 26g Provenance: Private UK collection; Ex private family collection of a North American gentleman, 1980-90Õs. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
