NEAR EASTERN HAEMATITE CEREMONIAL MACE HEAD WITH ANIMALS Ca. 1200 - 800 BC. A haematite ceremonial mace head with a central shaft hole and bulbous body carved in low relief with a figural scene: a stylised tree surmounted by the seven-dot symbol, with two figures in knee-length garments standing to the right, their right hands raised and vertical implements held in their left hands; a wheeled star above; a second tree with diagonally ascending branches beneath a crescent, flanked by two figures wearing fish cloaks and holding buckets; and two further figures in knee-length garments repeating the gesture in reverse, with the left hands raised and vertical implements held in their right hands, beneath an eight-pointed star.
