Description
COLLECTION OF EGYPTIAN FAIENCE SCARABS Late Period, Ca. 664 - 332 BC. A collection of five glazed-faience scarab amulets in turquoise, blue-green and cream. Each is carefully modelled with a rounded carapace, articulated wing cases, head and folded legs. The undersides are engraved with differing hieroglyphic and geometric devices, several enclosed within oval borders. The varying designs suggest their use as both personal protective amulets and seals. Subtle differences in colour and modelling lend the group considerable visual and typological interest. Minor chips, glaze loss, surface wear, encrustation and deposits consistent with age. Size: 20-22mm x 14-15mm; Weight: 15g Provenance: Private UK collection; acquired in Germany; formerly with G. M., Sweden 1980s-1990s.
