Description
COLLECTION OF EGYPTIAN FAIENCE AMULETS Late Period, Ca. 664 - 332 BC. A collection of eight glazed-faience amulets in turquoise, pale green, blue and pink. The group includes a feather-shaped pendant and an elongated amulet bearing a vertical column of hieroglyphic signs. A heart-shaped example is decorated with an ankh, while an oval plaque bears opposed foliate motifs. Further pieces comprise a small curved emblem and three anthropomorphic or divine figures, including a polychrome representation of Bes. Several retain pierced suspension loops or holes, indicating their use as personal protective ornaments. Chips, minor losses, glaze wear, encrustation and surface deposits consistent with age. Size: 14-33mm x 8-16mm; Weight: 10g Provenance: Private UK collection; acquired in Germany; formerly with G. M., Sweden 1980s-1990s.
