SASANIAN CARNELIAN INTAGLIO OF A WARRIOR IN GOLD RING Ca. AD 300 - 600. An oval carnelian intaglio engraved with a stylised standing figure flanked by two long standards. Set in a possible later gold ring, the raised bezel is enriched with rope-twist wire and applied granulated ornament. Minor surface wear and a small edge chip to the intaglio; the metal untested. Size: D:17.53mm / US: 7 1/4 / UK: O; Weight: 2.5g Provenance: From a private UK collection, M.A.; earlier purchased on the London art market before 2000.
