ROMAN CARNELIAN INTAGLIO WITH MERCURY IN SILVER RING Ca. AD 50 - 200. A carnelian intaglio engraved with Mercury standing on a groundline, nude except for a cloak over his right shoulder. He holds a caduceus in his right hand and a purse in his left. The intaglio is set in a possibly later silver ring with a fluted hoop and an oval bezel. Size: D:19.15mm / US: 9 1/4 / UK: S; Weight: 6g Provenance: Private London collection; previously in an Austrian private collection dating to the 1980sÐearly 1990s.
