Description
STUNNING VIKING GOLD AND CARNELIAN PIN Ca. AD 700 - 1101. A pin with a long tapering shaft and pointed tip. The upper section is fitted with an elongated carnelian grip between gold collars, each decorated with applied granules and beading. A ribbed gold finial caps the upper end. Size: 125mm x 10mm; Weight: 13.5g Provenance: Private London collection; previously part of a distinguished New York private collection, assembled between 1975 and 1995. The collection was authenticated in the early 1990s by Dr. Jack Ogden and Barbara Deppert Lippitz, leading specialists in ancient jewellery. A significant number of objects from this collection were also published in a professional catalogue.
