Ismael Saincilus was a Haitian painter born in Petite-Rivière de l’Artibonite. A leading figure of the Artibonite School, he developed a highly personal style, characterised by rich, detailed linework and vibrant colours. His works, inspired by rural Haitian life as well as Christian and Voodoo iconography, have earned him recognition as one of the leading masters of modern Haitian art.
