ROLAND SAINT-HUBERT (b. 1951) Serpent Woman signed and dated ‘Roland St. Hubert 95’ (bottom right) acrylic on canvas 50.5 × 60.5 cm Painted in 1995 Roland Saint-Hubert is a Haitian painter belonging to the second generation of artists from the École de l’Artibonite. Renowned for his rich, detailed compositions and vibrant colour palette, he depicts scenes from everyday Haitian life as well as lush landscapes and imaginary architecture. He is particularly known for his recurring motif of the snake-woman, a mythical figure blending human and serpentine forms, evoking mystery, metamorphosis and the rich imagination of Haitian culture. His works have been exhibited internationally and feature in numerous private collections.
