Description
IVAN SHISHKIN (1832–1898) Oranienbaum inscribed in Cyrillic and dated ‘Oranienbaum / 4 iunya ..8.’ (bottom right) Dated c. 1891. This drawing bears the inscription ‘Oranienbaum’, the historical name of the town now known as Lomonosov. It is situated some 40 km west of Saint Petersburg, on the southern shore of the Gulf of Finland. Oranienbaum is renowned for its 18th-century imperial palace and park, and the surrounding forests were a favourite haunt for artists working en plein air. Ivan Shishkin is known to have stayed in the vicinity of Oranienbaum and produced numerous studies in Mordvinovski Park in the spring of 1891. At the buyer’s request, we would be happy to provide a general report on the condition of the lot described above.
