Stenberg 1944’ (bottom right), inscribed in Cyrillic ‘Chekhov’ (bottom left), inscribed in Cyrillic ‘Chekhov / dama / khud. Ir. V. Stenberg’ (on the reverse) watercolour and ink on paper 43 × 30.5 cm Created in 1944, to mark the fortieth anniversary of Anton Chekhov’s death, for a production of one of his plays at the Russian Youth Theatre in Tbilisi.
