Irina Mikhailovna Beklemisheva was a Soviet painter and draughtswoman, born in Ukraine. Born into a cultured family, she was the niece of the famous sculptor Vladimir Beklemichev (1861–1919), former rector of the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts in St Petersburg. Trained in the 1920s, she developed a body of work devoted to landscapes, still lifes and scenes of everyday life, characterised by a sensitive colour palette and a keen observation of nature. Based in Kyiv, she regularly took part in Soviet exhibitions and established herself as a leading figure in the Ukrainian school of painting.
