Description
G.A.V. TRAUGOT Aleksandr Pushkin signed in Cyrillic ‘G.A.V. TRAUGOT’ (bottom centre) white gouache on black paper 28 x 19.5 cm (visible area) G.A.V. Traugot refers to the artistic collective formed by Georgy Traugot (1903–1961) and his sons Alexander Traugot (born 1931) and Valery Traugot (1936–2009), key figures in book art in Leningrad–Saint Petersburg. Working in painting, sculpture and the graphic arts, they devoted most of their creative energy to book illustration. Their early projects were carried out in collaboration with their father, giving rise to the collective pseudonym G.A.V. (Georgy, Alexander, Valery), which became emblematic of the Leningrad art scene. Their work has been the subject of numerous international exhibitions and has won many awards. It is held in major collections, notably those of the Russian Museum, the Tretyakov Gallery and the Hermitage Museum, as well as in public and private collections across Europe and Japan.
