Yuri Ivanovych Khymych was a Soviet and Ukrainian architect, graphic artist and an exceptional master of architectural landscape painting. Trained as an architect, his art focused on traditional and historical architecture, notably churches, monasteries, urban scenes and landscapes. Born in Kamianets-Podilskyi and later based in Kyiv, he was an Honoured Artist and Architect of Ukraine, a member of the National Union of Architects of Ukraine (since 1955) and the National Union of Artists of Ukraine (since 1962). By the late 1950s, Khymych was recognised by art historians as one of the finest watercolourists in the USSR. In 1990, he was awarded the title of Honoured Artist of the Ukrainian SSR and became an honorary member of the Ukrainian Academy of Architecture.
