‘MOTHER OF GOD OF VLADIMIR’ ICON WITH SILVER OKLAD DECORATED WITH PEARLS Yaroslavl, early 19th century Oklad: silver (unhallmarked, assayed), repoussé and engraved, blackened, gilded, river pearls and stones wood, levkas, gold leaf, tempera 32 x 26 cm Condition: oklad without restoration, some minor retouching to the paintwork This gentle and spiritual image of the Virgin Mary with the Infant Jesus was created by a talented iconographer in the style of traditional icon painting of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The silver oklad, adorned with Empire-style motifs, featuring pearls on the garments and blackened elements, harmoniously complements this remarkable artistic composition.
