ICON ‘MOTHER OF GOD OF VLADIMIR’ Russia, early 18th century wood (kovtcheg), levkas, tempera 31.2 x 26 cm Condition: the original paint is largely preserved on the faces of the Virgin and Child; some 19th-century restoration; loss of paint on the borders. The kovtcheg is the central part of the icon panel, which is slightly recessed to accommodate the painted image.
