The ship "Ville-de-Bordeaux" in difficulty.

Height: 57 cm. Width: 96.5 cm (Stains and small accidents).
Handwritten inscription on the back: "The "Ville de Bordeaux" in difficulty off Brest. Capitaine de Frégate Denis Félix Paqué" (Nantes, 1822 - Roscoff, 1899).
Provenance: Léon manor house.
The "Ville-de-Bordeaux" was a 90-gun mixed vessel launched in Lorient in 1860. She took part in the Mexican campaign before serving as a prison for the Communards in Brest in 1871-72. Renamed "Bretagne II", she was assigned to the Ecole des Novices et Apprentis Marins between 1880 and 1894.
