Sideboard in the Seiz Breur style
Oak and oak veneer with a light patina.
The sideboard opens with two doors carved with Celtic motifs and two drawers carved with stylised waves; it stands on two legs, each carved with a stylised crane. Signed J. Philippe on one door.

Originally from Guingamp, sculptor and cabinetmaker Jacques Philippe set up his "Atelier d'Art Celtique" on rue Hoche in Rennes. He furnished the homes of many prominent figures from Rennes and the wider Brittany region. A member of the Société des artistes français, his style is close to that of the Seiz Breur, with whom he is regularly associated.
The Musée de Bretagne in Rennes and the Musée Breton in Quimper house many pieces of furniture by Jacques Philippe.
