CHINA - QIANLONG period (1736 - 1795)
Large bottle VASE in red and blue flamed stoneware. On the reverse, the Qianlong mark with six characters in zhuanshu engraved.
Height : 40 cm (Neck cut).
Provenance: attic of a house, Brittany.
This particular glaze attempts to recreate the famous classic Jun kiln ceramics of the Song period. The characteristic splashes and streaks of this glaze are described as yao bian, or "transmutation glaze".
A similar piece with gold decoration is reproduced in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum, volume 37. Monochrome Porcelain, Hong Kong, 1999, pp. 202-3, no. 182.
