Pair of EPERONS, Ottoman Algeria, 19th century
Silver- and copper-alloy-plated iron with engraved plant motifs throughout and geometric latticework at the ends of the branches. The decoration is enhanced with coral cabochons and the spurs are topped with a spherical brass element with a coral cabochon.
Length: 26 cm (Traces of oxidation, some cabochons missing or replaced, small twist in the tips).
The Metropolitan Museum of New York has in its collection spurs of the same type (Inv. 36.25.543) attributed to 19th century Algeria.
