This imposing planter takes us back into the fascinating story of the daughter of a humble miller from Belle-Isle-en-Terre: Marie-Louise Le Manac'h, born in 1869. Little "Maï" learned French at school, worked in a hotel in Saint-Brieuc and then "went up" to Paris in search of a less harsh life. There she met a strong man from Les Halles, with whom she moved to London. There, as a widow, she met the Spanish infant Antoine d'Orléans, who took her as his mistress. She was plunged into the splendours of social life, and it was thanks to another lover that her destiny changed. Lord Mond, a wealthy industrialist and enlightened art lover, made her his wife. For his sixtieth birthday, he gave her the Château de Coat-an-Noz in Belle-Isle-en-Terre. It's a safe bet that little Maï never even dared to dream about it... When he died in 1949, the house was sold and the household goods dispersed. It was at this time that our gardener left the legendary Mond collection.
