Note: Born in Paris in 1931, Jacques Léonard trained at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he studied from 1953 to 1957. By the late 1950s, he had established himself on the Parisian art scene and became a member of the Salon d’Automne.
In 1959, he was a resident artist at the Casa de Velázquez in Madrid, an experience that had a lasting influence on his artistic vision and work. He also took part in the Salon de la Jeune Peinture as well as numerous Parisian art fairs and international exhibitions.
His work is characterised by a free and expressive figurative style, marked by a constant exploration of colour, texture and the construction of forms. His compositions, often powerful and expansive, reflect a particular focus on the landscapes, figures and scenes he observed during his many travels.
A recipient of several awards, notably the Taylor Prize, the Charles Cottet Prize and the Grand Prix at the Salon des Artistes Français, Jacques Léonard has also been the subject of several retrospective exhibitions dedicated to his work.
His paintings feature in public and private collections, both in France and abroad, and some have been acquired by the French State and the City of Paris.
