Description
PASSPORTS: A collection of 13 documents: 12 passports dating from 1798 to 1870 and a lithograph by Daumier on this subject (set in China). The first is a locally printed document from Gap (stained); the next two are handwritten. The fourth bears the letterhead of the General Police Commission for the ports of the English Channel and the Pas-de-Calais. One is bilingual, from the Haute-Marne, which was occupied in July 1815 following Napoleon’s downfall. One from the British Consulate in Le Havre in 1818. The last, dated 10 September 1870, with the word ‘Empire’ crossed out (6th day of the Republic).
