PLAYING CARDS: Poster dated January 1751, announcing the King’s decree increasing the duty on playing cards, the proceeds of which were to be donated to the Royal Military Academy (38x28cm). Five gazettes of laws: Imperial decree on playing cards in the departments of Genoa, the Apennines and Montenotte. Imperial decree of 1808 on playing cards. Imperial decree of 1813 abolishing the 16c duty imposed on playing cards manufactured in the departments of Holland. Royal ordinance on the manufacture of playing cards, 1817. Royal Order of 1821 subjecting manufactured playing cards to a new inspection process. A letter addressed to Marseille, ordering playing cards from a maître d’hôtel in 1864. Three reused antique cards (one as a surgeon’s calling card, one for an order of 20 bottles of ‘Eau des Célestins’ in 1819, and one from 1772). Ten card designs on black card. A collection of 20 documents.
