GREENOUGH, ROME, 1881; MINOR DEFECTS, TRACES OF OXIDATION The younger brother of the better-known neoclassical sculptor Horatio, Richard Saltonstall Greenough (Boston, 1819–1904) worked in both the United States and Europe. Having moved to Italy in 1837 and been elected a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1855, he spent much of his life in Rome, where he is now buried. Greenough’s best-known work is the bronze statue of Benjamin Franklin (1856), situated in front of the Old City Hall in his hometown. Minor flaws, traces of oxidation
