CHEST OF DRAWERS WITH VARIOUS WOOD VENEERS, LOMBARDY, LATE 18TH CENTURY rectangular layout, decorated with floral motifs and stylised Greek frets drawn from neoclassical sources, retractable and concealed front door with two internal drawers and a smaller upper one, top centred by a musical allegory within an oval panel, truncated conical legs; wear, some cracks, losses and replacements in the veneer, restoration 96 x 128 x 65 cm A VARIOUS WOOD VENEERED COMMODE, LOMBARDY, LATE 18TH CENTURY; DEFECTS, SCRATCHES AND YELLOWING TO THE PAINTWORK, MINOR DAMAGES AND LOSSES TO THE VENEERING, RESTORATIONS This piece is an emblematic example of the successful Lombard production between the late 18th century and the first quarter of the 19th (though not limited to this period), often following the models developed by Giuseppe Maggiolini (Parabiago, 1738–1814): its formal structure, in fact, essentially follows the stylistic dictates of High Neoclassicism, elevated to the highest technical and decorative expression by the renowned Milanese cabinetmaker and, in some cases, by his emulators.
