In 1962, the artist became interested in a physical representation of the Irrintzi. He began with sculpture before moving on to ink on paper. The Irrintzi, an intangible symbol of Basque culture, is depicted here as an oscillation representing high and low notes. The year 1962 also marked the artist’s first solo exhibition.
