Pastoral landscape with livestock and shepherds. Central European school. 19th century. Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 92 x 70 cm unframed, 102 x 80 cm framed. This expansive pastoral scene presents a balanced composition in which a group of cows and goats rest beside a withered tree, whilst two shepherds observe their surroundings and tend to the flock. The tree, with its bare branches and split trunk, stands as a symbolic vertical axis against a stormy sky that occupies much of the background, laden with dense clouds and shifting hues.
