Courtly scene. European school. 19th century. Signed C. Cortes Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 123 x 84 cm (unframed) / 144 x 115 cm (framed). Signed in the lower right-hand corner: C. Cortes. This palatial interior depicts a court scene in which several gentlemen in Renaissance attire attend to a lady seated at a richly decorated table. In the background, two young pages enter. The furnishings and textiles reinforce the historicist atmosphere, whilst the scene is constructed with compositional balance and meticulous detail.
