Icon of Our Lady of Consolation of the Afflicted, Russian School, 19th century Tempera on wood. Dimensions: 40 x 34.1 cm. The icon depicts the Virgin Mary standing at the centre of the composition, surrounded by angels and groups of the faithful arranged in the side panels. Above the scene, Christ is depicted giving his blessing amidst clouds. The Virgin holds scrolls bearing inscriptions, whilst the figures are grouped in an attitude of supplication and veneration. The edge and frame show visible damage and wear.
