Antique Icon of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, Russian School, 17th–18th century Tempera on wooden panel. Measures 31.5 x 24 cm. Icon depicting Saint Catherine of Alexandria standing and crowned, dressed in a tunic and cloak in reddish and ochre tones. In the upper left, Christ appears amidst clouds, whilst in the lower sections, small narrative scenes relating to the saint’s martyrdom are depicted. The dark background and golden halos emphasise the devotional nature of the composition.
