Gypsy woman with a guitar. Signed Ruíz Morales. Spanish School. 19th century. Watercolour on paper. The composition depicts a female figure dressed in a white dress and red shawl, playing the guitar in a serene and still pose. The melancholic expression on her face and the delicacy with which she holds the instrument evoke an idealised costumbrista scene, imbued with lyricism. On the right, a red shawl draped over the chair provides a vibrant splash of colour that contrasts with the soft tones of the neutral background.
