Description
Carrillo, Large Informalist Abstract Composition. 20th century.
Mixed media on burlap. Dimensions: 163 x 130 cm. An abstract composition constructed from material textures, areas of torn paint, and fragments of knotted raw fabric that criss-cross the surface in a sort of cruciform pattern. The torn areas, from which grids of braided rope emerge, are particularly striking, providing relief and visual depth. The surface is bold, with patches of red and black pigment emerging from beneath a dominant white layer, creating a palimpsest effect. The use of humble materials and the expressive gesture recall the languages of European Informalism and Arte Povera, whilst also evoking the material tradition of 20th-century Spain. The work conveys a tension between the violent gesture and the restrained composition, transforming the support into a space of visual and conceptual conflict.
