Still life of game and birds with a sculptural fountain, Dutch School, late 17th – early 18th century. Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 100 x 81 cm; frame: 114 x 95 cm. A still-life composition depicting hunting, featuring a hare suspended in the foreground, surrounded by game birds, metal containers, flowers and plant elements arranged before a sculptural fountain featuring figures of children. Various birds are depicted perched and in flight amongst branches and garden features, whilst the background landscape is shrouded in shadow. The contrast between the textures of feathers, fur, flowers and metal surfaces lends visual richness to the scene, which is organised through a complex arrangement of elements characteristic of the decorative still-life tradition in the Netherlands.
