Virgin of the Sash, Seville School, 17th–18th century Oil on canvas. Dimensions 148 x 116 cm; frame 128 x 100 cm. A devotional scene centred on the seated Virgin Mary holding the Christ Child, whilst a female figure in a reverent pose approaches from the left, creating an intimate composition of profound spiritual sensitivity. The pyramidal arrangement of the figures, the delicacy of their gestures, and the affectionate interaction between the Virgin and Child reinforce the maternal and protective nature of the scene. The dark, ethereal background accentuates the luminous modelling of the faces and flesh tones, a characteristic feature of the Sevillian Baroque tradition. The drapery is rendered with a soft, enveloping treatment, featuring ample folds and a warm palette dominated by ochres, earth tones and muted blues, creating a contemplative and serene atmosphere.
