Saint Francis receiving divine inspiration. Neapolitan school. 17th century Oil on canvas. Dimensions 67 x 59 / 81 x 73 cm. A devotional scene centred on Saint Francis seated, receiving the Christ Child held by an angel whilst other celestial figures offer him a floral crown and lilies, in an atmosphere of gentle mystical exaltation. The composition delicately articulates the relationship between the earthly and the supernatural, placing the saint in an ecstatic pose within an open landscape bursting with glory. The angelic figures and the tenderness of the Child introduce a gentle and affectionate tone, reinforced by a light colour palette and soft modelling with an Italianate flavour.
