Description
Featured Lot - Attributed to Ramón Bayeu (1744–1793), Spanish Neoclassical School of the 18th century Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 210 x 196 cm. At the top, an angel bursts into the scene with a beam of light and a floral crown, emphasising the moralising nature of the narrative. The painting demonstrates a refined use of chiaroscuro, with light contrasts that give form to the volumes and define the folds of the garments. The brushwork is meticulous, particularly in the faces and hands, and reveals a clear influence of the Flemish Baroque style inherited from Rubens. The rich colours, the classical architecture and the dynamism of the figures place this work within the devotional and decorative tradition of Northern Baroque. Provenance: an important private collection in Madrid.
